Lt Gov clears Delhi Health Service under allopathic system

Lt Governor B L Joshi has cleared the proposal of setting up a separate Delhi Health Service (DHS) for medical practitioners under the allopathic system of medicine, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said today.

Mr. Shastri said the formation process of the Delhi Health Service regulations with UPSC will be initiated soon.

The new service will cover all the civil posts of medical practitioners under the allopathic system of medicine that are currently borne on the strength of the Government of the Delhi and are being paid from the Consolidated Fund of Delhi, he added.

The Health Minister said during the intervening period, the members of the Central Health Service shall be subject to disciplinary control of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

Dr Shastri said the Department of Health and Family Welfare has been directed to take steps, including holding of consultation with the UPSC either for the purposes of framing of the service regulations and seeking assessment of the suitability of persons to be appointed under initial constitution.
